If it’s currently snowing where you are, look out the window and listen to this.
November 2010
Mum’s written “Velodrome” on the calendar. Every time I see it out of the corner of my eye, I read it as “Voldemort”
Listen to Zola Jesus. She sounds a bit like Florence & The Machine, but with a more eerie edge. Which instantly makes her better
I don’t know why, but whenever I tell someone that my favourite drink of a night out is sambuca and lemonade, they seem to get really angry about it.
It’s a bit like the whole ham + pineapple + pizza = barbarian thing.
The film’s awful, but the soundtrack is delicious.
This is bloody tricky to decide. Just exactly who is my favourite composer. There’s a four-way tie at the moment: Clint Mansell, Howard Shore, Yann Tiersen and Vangelis. However, when I consider the calibre of the films Mansell has worked on, I always pick him as my favourite.
Just look:
Howard Shore:

OK, so LOTR is my favourite trilogy, but the music can be a little patchy (large chunks aren’t particularly hum-worthy)
Yann Tiersen:

Both DAMN good - Amélie is one of my favourite soundtracks (and films), but he’s not a purely composer-esque artist; he’s released stuff independently too.
Vangelis:

The films aren’t that good (Blade Runner’s OK, but not hugely fantastic), but the soundtracks are unbelievable. I could listen to them whilst falling asleep every night for the rest of my life. 1492 especially. I might post a couple of songs just to illustrate this little-known beauty. Again, Vangelis isn’t just a composer…
And now consider Clint Mansell:

I’ve been listening to these all day, and I must say that nothing beats listening to foreboding music whilst walking through Manchester on a cold winter’s day. Especially with all those police vans zooming around this afternoon (the students were protesting). It was all very atmospheric.
What I particularly enjoy about Mansell’s work is that he’ll find a really excellent tune, then use it throughout the film with different variations of it, depending on the mood. This is pretty much what I look for in film music. You find a damn good tune then repeat it as often as you can throughout the movie.
Feel free to write back with your own favourite composers!
I feel really gloomy.
It might be something to do with going to the cinema by myself AND on a Wednesday, so there were couples of people all bouncing around and just me FOREVER ALONE. Normally that sort of thing doesn’t bother me, but I was wondering around the winter market in Manchester and again there were all these couples. I saw a wooden Solitaire game and it made me think how valuable it would be to have one, since I’d be able to distract myself from the utter despair of loneliness.
I blame the couple at the train station this morning. They started it.
I also blame Harry Potter, because it ended on a really tragic note that made me sniffle for about half an hour afterwards….

My boss today told me that I’m allowed to listen to my iPod (with one earphone, naturally) whilst I’m working, since I’m not on the phones.
I FUCKING LOVE MY JOB!! :D
All I’ve had to eat in the past 28 hours is a croissant.
WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH ME??
Normally I eat pretty much constantly when I’m at home. I’m slightly afraid
End spam (ha).
And all of that was from just Volume 1. Just think of the glorious hilarity that awaits me in the next 25 volumes!
